Are you a fan of sauvignon blanc and chardonnay but in the mood to try something different? Consider wines from southern France, which offers some great options for affordable, refreshing dry whites. Among them are wines made from the grenache gris or grenache blanc mutations of the red grenache grape. Another interesting grape varietal used to make white wines is picpoul, which comes from the French word piquepoul. That name translates to "lip stinger" and refers to the grape's naturally bright acidity. The following two wines are from France's Languedoc-Roussillon region.
