City Neurologist's Hearing Rescheduled

A federal judge pushed back the plea hearing set this week for a Charleston neurologist charged with violating a record keeping law for controlled substances. Dr. Iraj Derakhshan is accused of failing to report or record information regarding the dispensing of a Schedule II controlled substance to a patient. The plea hearing now is set for April 21 in front of U.S. District Judge John Copenhaver Jr.

Federal prosecutors requested the hearing be pushed back, according to an order filed Tuesday by Copenhaver. The hearing had been set for today.

The felony charge Derakhshan faces was filed last month in the form of an information which can't be filed without a defendant's consent and typically means a defendant has agreed to plead guilty. …
