Dear Bruce: I have a large portfolio and don't have a pension. My question is, what type of investments would you suggest that would generate an income stream that is durable, predictable and sustainable like a pension check? -- Douglas

Dear Douglas: There are lots of different choices, but the two most obvious would be bond funds (possibly straight bond purchases) or investments in the marketplace. They aren't necessarily guaranteed; stocks can go up and down. You also could consider annuities -- not my choice, but they certainly are worth some investigation.

You say you have a large portfolio, but I am not certain how much that means. "Large" to one person could be "modest" to another. Please don't do this on your own. You need the help of a professional who deals with stocks on a daily basis and in a narrow area, not the entire marketplace.
