Masahiro Tanaka was prepared to pitch Sunday night, but he wasn't exactly shattered when Tigers officials chose to postpone the game - a decision made four hours before the scheduled first pitch due to a forecast of continued raw and rainy conditions.

"You always have to be ready to play in any kind of weather," Tanaka said through his interpreter. During his high school days in Japan, "I pitched in colder weather. I was reminding myself of those times" before the game was postponed at Comerica Park.

Since this was the Yankees' one scheduled regular-season trip to Detroit, manager Joe Girardi's club must return for one game - possibly on July 28. But that would require approval from the MLB Players Association, since the Yankees would be playing on 24 consecutive dates. …
