Franklin Park Council President Names New Mayor to Dispatch Board

When the new president of Franklin Park council announced appointments to council committees last Wednesday, one drew a complaint.

Councilwoman Marilyn Corey objected to being removed as borough representative to the board of Northwest Regional Communications system. "I've been going to the meetings, and I've done all the work," she said.

Council President Gary Thomas named the borough's new mayor, G. Reynolds Clark, to replace Corey on the board of the emergency dispatch service.

As mayor, Clark oversees the police department, and he will continue to serve as fire chief. Thomas said that dual role gives Clark experience and familiarity with the communications needs of both departments.

Last year, Corey was a prime sponsor of efforts to persuade council to withdraw from Northwest, arguing that the borough was paying twice for dispatch service -- once as a member of the regional calling service and again because residents pay a telephone tax that supports the Allegheny County system. …
