Do Building, Renovating School Cost the Same?

Members of the Moon Area school board were recently referencing the much-needed repairs to our schools, as saying that the cost of renovation vs. new construction was virtually identical.

I wonder if either the readers of this newspaper or even the writers didn't think this was highly unusual?

Since when does it cost the same to tear down a usable building, clean up the debris and build a completely new facility from the ground up, as it does to renovate and repair an existing building?

Is there anyone who really believes these figures?

Quite honestly, if I hired a professional to give me building advice, and wound up getting the same answer as our school board, I would seriously question that advice.

One has to wonder if the professional was given flawed information, needed new batteries for his calculator, or perhaps intended for the numbers to be the same? …
