ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS -- A revamped proposal for LG Electronics' North American headquarters on 27 acres between Sylvan Avenue and Hudson Terrace will generate less traffic and will have fewer driveways spewing cars onto local roads during rush hour, but not by much.

Joseph Staigar, LG's traffic engineer, said that the traffic generated by the estimated 1,100 employees who will work at the corporate campus will number 69 fewer in the morning and 34 fewer in the evening, compared with the traffic generated by Citi Corp., which previously owned the property.

Motorists will access the headquarters via four full driveways -- two each on Sylvan Avenue and Hudson Terrace, and a right-turn only exit on the northern end of the property on Sylvan Avenue.

The previous building, which was originally built for the publisher Prentice-Hall in the 1950s, had 12 total driveways that were "developed over time in a haphazard way," Staigar said. …
