PAUL O'GRADY'S house is like a petting zoo. He's got five dogs, three goats, four barn owls, six pigs and eight sheep.

He's an absolute sucker for all creatures great and small, and by his own admission visiting an animal orphanage is a bit problematic because he wants to take them all home.

The comedian's transformation from the days of Lily Savage to Doctor Dolittle (he really is like an animal whisperer) have amazed and thrilled him. "I've always tried to incorporate animals into my shows," he says.

"When you work with animals you play second fiddle and that's fine by me."

In this third series, Paul is in Borneo where he encounters orangutans, turtles and gibbons, among others. And yes, they are little baby orphans (get your hankies out), their parents have been killed with the destruction of the rainforest. …
