Manchester city centre's first gin micro-distillery could soon be in operation, complete with its own gin school. Now THAT is the kind of education we can get behind.

Based in a disused railway arch on Red Bank (pictured below), in the Green Quarter, it would 'create a new cultural visitor attraction' for the city, according to a planning application lodged with the council.

The distillery will produce a new Manchester-branded smallbatch spirit, as well as opening for tours five times a week, the documents reveal.

Visitors will be able to enjoy tastings, learn about the history of the spirit and create their own bespoke bottle of gin to take home as part of the 'immersive gin experience'.

Gin production would take place on the ground floor of the building, with a mezzanine level hosting the gin school and a licensed bar which will be open to tour participants - although not to the general public. …
