AN environmentallyfriendly Hyundai has set a record for longest continuous trip for a hydrogen car after it was driven more than 6,000 miles around the M25.

Cars which run on hydrogen produce zero harmful emissions with water vapour coming out of the tailpipe.

The Hyundai ix35 managed to travel 6,096 miles at an average speed of around 40mph - beating the previous record of 6,025 miles.

It also became the first production car to travel 400 miles on a single tank of hydrogen.

The record was set by the London Hydrogen Network Expansion project during Hydrogen Week, which ran from March 11 to March 18.

A pair of professional drivers did the bulk of the driving, doing four and eight-hour stretches.

The record attempt was designed to raise awareness of the benefits offered by hydrogen-fuelled cars and their environmentallyfriendly credentials. …
