As the prescription opiate and heroin pandemic continues to beleaguer the country, government,law enforcement and medical officials are aggressively fighting to suppress the problem, a massive albatross that has effectively overtaken the households of countless American families struggling with the anguishes of addiction and overdose.

Although local and national news outlets have been responsive in reporting the complex personal and societal effects of opiate and heroin abuse, commercial broadcasting and social media have been largely underutilized tools for engagement.
