SARASOTA -- Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation's CEO Alexandra Quarles will step down June 1, the organization announced Tuesday.

Quarles has served as the head of the foundation for 22 years.

"Being part of such a unique foundation, supporting a world- class healthcare system like Sarasota Memorial, has been an honor few people get to experience in their lifetime," Quarles said in a statement. "It has been my extreme pleasure to serve this organization and the greater Sarasota community."

Under Quarles' leadership, the foundation granted more than $63 million to the public, nonprofit Sarasota Memorial Health Care System for projects that included the hospital's courtyard tower, expansion of its emergency room and new urgent care centers, a new robotic surgery program and the women's cancer research program. …
