A TESCO manager rescued a girl on crutches from a 70-strong crowd of school pupils.

The hero store boss stepped in after trouble flared outside a Tesco Express store in Manchester Road, Wardley, Salford, yesterday afternoon.

The pupils are understood to be from St Ambrose Barlow RC High - regarded as one of the city's top schools.

Bosses at the supermarket chain have praised the manager's actions and say he acted after spotting a 'large group' of children who were bullying and intimidating the girl.

A spokesman told the M.E.N.: "Our store manager witnessed this happening and immediately left the store, approached the youths and called the non-emergency police line.

"This resulted in the crowd dispersing and leaving the girl in peace. …
