SCOUTING REPORT * Righthander Tim Melville, a Holt High product, will make his second big-league start for the Reds on Friday. Melville, a fourth-round pick by Kansas City in 2008, was 10-1 with a 0.89 earned run average as a senior. A late spring replacement for injured Anthony DeSclafani, Melville allowed one run in four innings to Pittsburgh in his first start for the Reds.

Lefthander Brandon Finnegan, who will pitch Saturday for the Reds, is one of five Cincinnati pitchers since 1900 to start the season by throwing six innings or more and allowing three hits or fewer in his first two starts. Finnegan, who like Melville began his career in the Royals' organization, has given up three hits and one hit, respectively, in his first two outings.

The Reds are 4-16 in their last 20 series with the Cardinals but 2-22-1 in their last 25 series at Busch Stadium although one of their series wins came here last July. …
