Sarah Gunderson again came through for the Northern Highlands softball team in the circle and at the plate.

The senior pitched seven shutout innings and hit a two-run double to help lead the Highlanders, No. 12 in The Record Top 25, to a 6-0 victory over No. 10 NV/Old Tappan on Friday in Allendale.

The Rhode Island-bound Gunderson yielded just three hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

After scoring a run in the first inning, Northern Highlands added five more in the second. Alexis Miller and Caitlin Long hit RBI doubles in the inning, and Gunderson's double plated two more.

Through the Highlanders' first five games, Gunderson is 12-for- 19 (.632) with four doubles, a triple, home run and eight RBI. She's also struck out 51 batters in 33 innings while pitching to a 2.28 ERA.
