Topeka Man Self-Evacuates from Apartment Fire, Later Arrested for Aggravated Arson

A Topeka man was arrested in connection with arson in a second- story apartment, Topeka Fire Department investigator Rusty Vollintine said in a news release.

The Topeka Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday at 1405 S. Topeka Blvd.

An occupant of the dwelling, a multi-unit apartment complex, heard a noise and investigated, finding fire within the second- story window of apartment No. 2. The occupant called 911. Upon arrival, fire suppression crews reported light smoke coming from the dwelling. Further investigation revealed a small, smoldering fire within the second-story apartment. The fire was extinguished and contained to the objects of the fire's origin, Vollintine said. …
