Thief 'Ruined Pensioner's Life' by Raiding Bank Account 10 Times

A SHOP worker betrayed the trust of a vulnerable pensioner by repeatedly raiding her bank account.

Christine Whittle 'ruined the life' of her 74-year-old victim by helping herself to cash on 10 occasions, Manchester and Salford magistrates court heard.

It was only when one of the pensioner's friends became suspicious that the con was uncovered and mum-of-three Whittle was brought to justice.

The 57-year-old, from Wythenshawe, has now been convicted of stealing Pounds 1,900 between December 2014 and February last year.

Prosecutor Nicola Ormrod said Whittle, who works for Home Bargains in Wythenshawe, had befriended the victim after meeting her at the local shops.

After receiving a Pounds 2,000 energy rebate, the woman asked Whittle to bank the cheque for her.

Whittle, it was said, duly obliged but then used the victim's bank card and pin to withdraw cash at Pounds 200 a time. …
