Kimberly Skertich has been appointed by the Shaler Area school board to fill the seat vacated by Kenneth Wineberg who resigned July 9. She will serve until the board reorganizes in December.

Skertich, a wife and mother of two who has lived in Shaler for 20 years, was appointed to the board Aug. 6. She is president of the intermediate school parent association and serves on the district- parent council.

The parent council includes representatives from each parent association in the district and meets once a month with school administrators to discuss various issues.

"[Serving on school board] has been suggested to me a few times, and I thought this would be a great chance to throw my hat in the ring," said Skertich.

Wineberg resigned in a dispute over a board vote taken June 30. …
