Amanda McDonald struck out 14 as South Charleston pulled away from visiting George Washington 8-2 Monday evening in high school softball. McDonald allowed just two runs and scattered seven hits in a complete-game effort.

South Charleston led just 4-2 after the third, but plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

Kiersten Landers went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, Emily Bostic and Kelly Knuckles each knocked in two runs and Olivia Orcutt- Lazo doubled in a run for the Black Eagles (15-1), who compiled 12 hits. For GW, Emma Groe went 3 for 4.

Hurricane 8, Spring Valley 0: Hurricane recorded eight hits as it blanked visiting Spring Valley in five innings. Jayme Bailey went 3 for 3 with an RBI, Taylor McCray collected two hits and drove in a run and Kate Adams allowed just four hits and struck out two to get the win for the Redskins (19-3).

Winfield sweeps Capital: Winfield (13-8) swept a doubleheader from visiting Capital 9-0 and 10-0. In the first game, Emily Moore went 2 for 3 with a triple, Maggie Rumbaugh and Ali Whitley each had two hits and Sydney Houck doubled for the Generals, who won in five innings. In the nightcap, Winfield took advantage of nine walks to score 10 runs on just three hits to win in three innings.

Cross Lanes 10, Teays Valley 0: Hannah Goodwin struck out five and drove in two runs as host Cross Lanes (12-6) won in three innings. Goodwin improves to 29-8 in her career, becoming the winningest pitcher in school history. Sara Stepp went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Haley Stepp and Sarah Schaffer each went 2 for 2 with a double and Abby Jeffries tripled for the Warriors.

Baseball

Capital 6, Oak Hill 5: Capital scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to notch a comeback-win over visiting Oak Hill. Capital led 2-0 before Oak Hill plated five runs in top of the seventh. …
