Daily Mail Endorsement: Kanawha School Board Can Use Fresh Ideas, Consistency

Kanawha County voters have several candidates to choose among to replace outgoing school board member Robin Rector, and to decide whether 16-year member Jim Crawford stays for another term. Four have filed for the non-partisan position, including Crawford. There is no continuation of this race to the general election, so the two top vote getters will be installed as Kanawha County school board members.

Besides Crawford, who is seeking his fifth four-year term, the candidates are Bill Carpenter, a retired construction supervisor; Ric Cavender, executive director of Charleston Main Streets; and Adam Knauff, a former Charleston City Council member.

Boards like this benefit from new members and fresh thinking, yet boards that run smoothly as the current Kanawha Board of Education does run well on consistency too. …
