Some State Legislators Decide to Bow out Rather Than Run Again

OKLAHOMA CITY - The 2016 candidate filing ended as a three-day flurry of activity, with candidates filing for the state Legislature, U.S. Congress and one open seat on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

According to the state Election Board, 417 candidates filed for office by Friday, marking the most crowded campaign season in a presidential election year since 2000.

There were some surprises. Two young Republican lawmakers announced Friday that they wouldn't run again. Edmond's Rep. Randy Grau and Shawnee's Rep. Justin Wood cited personal reasons for leaving office.

"I am going to focus on helping my grandfather who has been hospitalized since December due to an injury," Grau wrote in a statement. "I also look forward to spending more time with my two growing sons, as well as focusing on a growing, successful law practice. …
