ARTIST'S impressions of a Pounds 550m development next to Piccadilly Station have changed the Star and Garter pub into a coffee shop - even though the famous music venue has not been sold.

Andy Martin, who runs the pub, said it was 'presumptuous' of the architects to include a 'Starbucks' rather than the pub in the extensive Fairfield Street proposals for new homes, office space, hotel and retail facilities.

The image, produced by Bennetts Associates architects, shows an extension on the back of the Grade II listed building, which has become renowned for its Smiths disco nights.

Mr Martin, 43, who has run the pub for two decades, said: "Not only is there an extension on the building, there is what looks like a Starbucks. It hasn't even been sold yet. I joked about them turning it into a coffee shop and here it is on the illustration as just that. …
