Wine Finds: Three Saints Has St. Louis Connections

It's difficult to find a really good pinot noir for less than $25 because the grape is difficult to grow and the wine is expensive to make. So it's always a pleasant surprise to find an affordable pinot noir that delivers a lot of flavor. And it's especially nice if that wine has St. Louis ties. One such example is Three Saints from California. Three Saints along with the Dierberg and Star Lane series of wines are owned by St. Louisans Jim and Mary Dierberg. (Jim is the brother of Bob Dierberg, chairman of the grocery chain.) The Dierbergs started their wine business in the 1970s, when they bought and revived the historic Hermannhof Winery in Hermann. But in the 1990s they expanded their winemaking business to Santa Barbara, Calif. The couple's grown children and their spouses are also involved in the day-to-day operations of the vineyards and winery. …
