During his recent campaign stop in Pittsburgh, Donald Trump promised to make Pittsburgh great again by restoring our once-thriving steel and coal industries. Clearly Mr. Trump doesn't know Pittsburgh very well.

Pittsburghers spent decades retooling and diversifying our economy so we could compete in the 21st century. Promising a return to a bygone era as a means to restore greatness is laughable. Pittsburgh is interested in the future, not the past.

Uber and Google, two of the most innovative companies in the world, now have major offices in Pittsburgh, and Facebook recently announced that it will follow suit. Carnegie Mellon is one of the finest universities in the country and is leading the way in pioneering industries such as robotics. UPMC is among the best hospitals in the country. …
