Why is Attorney General Patrick Morrisey jumping into court to help other states inflict prejudice on people with different sexual identity? Why did he file a federal brief - in the name of all West Virginians - to try to let Virginia restrict a transgender teen who transitioned from girl to boy and wanted to use the boy's bathroom at school?

Virginia's school system forbade the teen to enter male restrooms at his high school. A three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit U.S. Court in Richmond disagreed and ruled that the youth, now a boy, has a right to follow the identity that best suits him. Preventing him would violate Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination in schools, the judges concluded.

The Fourth Circuit ruling covers a group of southeastern states: West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, North and South Carolina. …
