Norwin school board Monday voted 8-0 to reject the proposed $8.22 million budget for 2016-17 for the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center.

Board President Bob Perkins said he doesn't believe Norwin has voted down a career center budget in the 17 years he has been on the school board.

He said he hopes other districts that send students to the center also vote against its proposed budget, so that center administrators take a hard look at the spending plan and make cuts.

Before the meeting, Brad Elwood, director of the career center, said he and other administrators at the school don't even have their own secretaries.He said the budget includes a 5.33 percent increase in salaries, benefits and retirement expenses.

Norwin's estimated share of the proposed budget was $1.1 million. …
