MidAmerica Airport to Get $835,000 in Renovations

MASCOUTAH * MidAmerica Airport is set to make $835,000 in renovations, of which 90 percent will be funded by a Federal Aviation Administration grant, said Tim Cantwell, the airport's director.

Work on the nearly 20-year-old terminal could start in five to six months, and will include upgrades to its announcement system, jetway systems and entrance doors.

The project is expected to take six to eight months to complete, and the terminal will remain open.

MidAmerica will have 20 flights a week beginning June 1, Cantwell said.

Flights to Jacksonville International Airport in Florida are slated to begin May 27. It's the airport's sixth destination through Allegiant Air, the only airline that serves the St. Clair County airport.
