Here are six famous graduates of PG North area high schools, who have left their mark in the world of football.

Eugene 'Mercury' Morris, Avonworth -- Is second in career rushing with Miami Dolphins with 3,877 yards. He averaged 5.1 yards a carry. Played with Miami from 1969-75. Member of two Super Bowl championship teams. NFL Pro Bowl selection in 1971, 1972 and 1973. Played college ball at West Texas State.

LaVar Arrington, North Hills -- All-America linebacker at Penn State, was first-round pick of Washington Redskins (second pick in draft) in April of 2000. Won Butkus Award in 1999, emblematic of the nation's top college linebacker. Was first sophomore to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (1998). NFL Pro Bowl selection last season. At North Hills, played on AAAA state championship team his freshman year.

Dan Rooney, North Catholic -- Pittsburgh Steelers owner and a 2000 inductee into the NFL Hall of Fame. …
