Making City's Shoppers Feel Happier Is So Free and Easy

MANCHESTER shoppers are happiest on the high street when they get freebies.

Hundreds of Mancunians said 'free stuff' would make them happy in a survey by Quidco, so the M.E.N. hit the streets of the city centre to put it to the test.

More than Pounds 500 worth of gifts, including coffees, children's toys, handbags and even cash towards a holiday were handed out - all random acts of kindness to make people high street happy.

Taking to Piccadilly and Market Street, people were dubious at first as to why free things were being handed out.

They thought there should be some kind of catch. But it was as simple as it sounds - free stuff.

Rose Waldman, 68, from Prestwich, was working on Market Street with colleague Penny Johnson, carrying out market research. She was amazed at receiving a handbag from Debenhams.
