Second Zika Case Confirmed in Allegheny County

Health officials have confirmed a second Zika infection in Allegheny County, this one involving a man who returned from a Zika- affected area in March.

That man, who wasn't identified, is doing well, said Melissa Wade, spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Health Department. Testing for 75 other Allegheny County residents is pending, the health department web site states.

On Monday, the State Department of Health raised the statewide total number of cases to date to 16, as a result of the Allegheny County case, with 128 pending test results.

County Health Director Karen Hacker has encouraged pregnant women to avoid visiting outbreak-stricken regions of the world, including Caribbean nations, Central America and large a percentage of South American nations, among other places worldwide. …
