Police to Seek Charges in Shootout at Carondelet Park

Authorities plan to seek charges against a man who was shot by a park ranger Sunday night after earlier shooting another man at a barbecue in Carondelet Park.

Police said the incident began when two men at the barbecue argued and one, armed with a .45-caliber pistol, shot the other man about 7:20 p.m. The victim, 37, was critically injured with gunshot wounds to the torso.

The shooter, 36, got in a Chevrolet Impala with another man, who drove away, according to police. A park ranger who was flagged down by others at the event stopped the Impala nearby.

The gunman got out of the passenger side of the car and fired a shot at the ranger, hitting a headlight and the engine block of the ranger's car, police said.

The park ranger then fired at the gunman, striking him in the head and arm, police said. The park ranger was not hurt. …
