Alcohol Cited in Fatal Crash | Driver's Blood Alcohol Level Was Three Times the Legal Limit

AUTOPSY RESULTS

SARASOTA -- The driver and two passengers who died in a recent single-car accident on University Parkway all had blood alcohol levels that far exceeded the legal limit, according to autopsy results released Monday.

Two of them also had traces of cannabis in their bodies.

On March 21, shortly after 2:30 a.m., Wesley C. McCurley, 21, of Sarasota, drove a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis west on University at a high rate of speed when it left the road, crashing into several trees near Old Bradenton Road and DeSoto roads.

McCurley died of "blunt impact" in the crash, as did passengers Michael P. Duffy, 21, of Sarasota, and Dane W. Custer, 21, of Bradenton, according to the Medical Examiner's Office reports.

McCurley's blood alcohol level of 0.284 was more than three times Florida's unlawful level of . …
