W.Va. Youth Symphony to Perform Spring Concert Sunday

The West Virginia Youth Symphony will present its annual spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Scottish Rite Temple, 406 Capitol St. in Charleston. More than 100 musicians will perform, with four performing ensembles, including Cadet Strings, Youth Strings, Youth Winds and Youth Orchestra.

Tickets are $10 for adults; all children will be admitted free.

The concert repertoire will include works by Mozart, Verdi, Pachelbel, Respighi and Elgar, among others.

Clarinetist Kayla Stubblefield, winner of the WVYS Concerto Competition, will perform the "Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 1 with the WVYS Orchestra. Stubblefield is a junior at Capital High School, where she is a member of the National Honors Society and plays clarinet with the Marching Band and piano with the Jazz Band. She studies privately with Robert Turizziani of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. …
