Unilever to Shut Its Call Center in Englewood Cliffs

Global food and consumer products company Unilever is closing its call-center operations at its Englewood Cliffs headquarters and eliminating 106 jobs there, the company said Tuesday.

Unilever has notified the state that the workers will be laid off as of June 30. State and federal laws require employers to give workers 60 days' notice and to alert the state about layoffs.

Unilever said in a statement that the company is closing call- center operations in Canada as well as in Englewood Cliffs. Those functions will be taken over by a third-party operation at sites in Orlando, Fla., and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The decision, the corporate statement said, is part of an effort "to step-change how we listen to and engage with our consumers, particularly through digital channels, integrating data sources and capturing real-time insights and recommendations to enhance consumer service. …
