Though her travels have taken her around the globe, author Cassandra Vivian will focus on a subject that's close to home when she speaks at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow during the monthly membership meeting of the Peters Creek Historical Society.

Although her travels and teaching career have taken her to far- off places like Egypt, Yemen, the Sudan, Jordan, Israel and, most recently, England, where she addressed a conference at Oxford University, her talk will focus on her latest book, titled "The National Road in Pennsylvania."

An ardent historian who spent 20 years in Egypt and taught at Cairo American College and the American University in Cairo, Vivian recently compiled a collection of 200 vintage photographs of historic sites and towns that line that part of the National Road (Route 40). It crosses southwestern Pennsylvania from Addison in Fayette County to West Alexander near the West Virginia border. …
