Montclair Names Dean of New Nursing School

Montclair State University on Wednesday announced the appointment of a founding dean for its nursing school, which is set to launch in the fall.

Dr. Janice Smolowitz, most recently of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, will assume the post next week, the school announced.

The School of Nursing will offer a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) degree program beginning in the fall, with an anticipated enrollment of 50 students.

Other undergraduate and graduate degree programs will roll out starting in 2017. It is projected the school will grow to accommodate as many as 600 students. Demand for nursing programs is high in the state, with existing programs having become increasingly selective.

Smolowitz is serving as the senior director of education, professional practice and research at Mount Sinai. …
