Gunderson Clutch Again for Northern Highlands

ALLENDALE -- Sarah Gunderson is at her best in the clutch. She doubly reinforced that basic truth both at the plate and in the circle Wednesday.

Northern Highlands' Gunderson came up with a big two-run single to help erase an early deficit and put in a strong pitching effort to lead the Highlanders past a rapidly improving Hackensack team, 6- 1, in a Big North Freedom Division encounter.

The game also was highlighted by Jamie Parisi of Hackensack picking up her 100th career hit.

With her team trailing, 1-0, Gunderson came up with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning and lined a two- run single to center field. A senior right-hander, the Rhode Island- bound Gunderson threw a complete-game five-hitter, striking out eight and walking none. She also made two nifty plays in the field robbing the Comets of a couple of hits.

"Sarah is the complete package, she can really do it all," said Northern Highlands third-year coach Chris Broking. …
