A CHURCH which was devastated by the Boxing Day floods is set to reopen this weekend.

St Mary's Parish Church, in Radcliffe, Bury, has undergone major restoration work to restore the building to its former glory.

Staff and volunteers have removed sludge from furniture and the walls have started to dry out. They have managed to rescue some documents but four months on from the flood, there is no organ and the kitchen and meeting area are not currently fit for use.

Now the Bishop of Manchester, David Walker, will join worshippers for a service to welcome her congregation back to the church. Parts of Greater Manchester suffered widespread damage when flooding struck across the north west on Christmas Day and Boxing Day last year.

Some church buildings became emergency hubs while others were also flooded, including St Mary's. …
