Galaxy Gardens Purchase 'Close'

WOODCLIFF LAKE -- Borough officials say they are making progress on acquiring the long-sought-after Galaxy Gardens property.

The borough has been exploring purchasing the 2-acre property, which is sandwiched between Woodcliff Avenue and Werimus Road, for more than two years. While different options for what to do with the property have been discussed, the current council is hoping to build a park on the property.

When a resident asked Mayor Carlos Rendo about the project at a council meeting last week, he said the borough was "very close" to buying the property, but could not be more specific.

"We're still negotiating," Rendo said by telephone this week. "There has been movement on both sides ... but, yes, I am optimistic."

Peter Molyneux, the owner of Galaxy Gardens, a gardening and landscaping business that is still in operation, declined to comment on Thursday. …
