Rain Should Move out before Marathon Temperature Will Rise Up from 50s

Runners in Sunday's Pittsburgh Marathon will be timing themselves to see how fast and efficiently they make it past the finish line.

As far as the timing of the race itself goes, the schedule makers who set the start time at 7 a.m. couldn't have done better.

"It just might be the best time of day for them to run," said Rihaan Gangat, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon. "If they ran overnight, it would definitely be a washout."

A low-pressure system approaching from the west/southwest means it's about 100 percent likely that the Pittsburgh region will see rain late tonight into early Sunday, Mr. Gangat said. But as runners are lining up to begin the long run, the chance for rain dips significantly to between 30 and 40 percent. …
