I mentioned before the first round that until the Blues won a playoff series and showed us something, I would not pick them. Well, they won one and showed us plenty in a seven-game series against Chicago. The Blues match up even better against Dallas, a hard forechecking team going up against a light defense.

The only concern, and it's a big one, is getting into a track meet with the high-scoring Stars. The Blues have to prevent that from happening and stay out of the penalty box. This is a winnable series, but the Blues will have to work just as hard as they did against the Hawks.

So it seems the only person not to pick the Blues to win this series is Jamie Benn's mom. But let's not forget that the Stars have stars, and that their defensive weakness is extremely overstated.

This is still a strong hockey team, and while the narrative is that St. Louis dominated Dallas in the regular season, let's not forget that three of the five games went to overtime.

The Stars have lots of high-end talent, even with No. 1 center Tyler Seguin still recovering from his Achilles tendon tear. They can score in bunches.

But they do not match up well against the size and playing style of the Blues.

Look for Robby Fabbri and Co. to pin the Stars in their own zone.

This is a good matchup for the Blues, who showed they could slow down Chicago's speed and control the puck. It's the same challenge all over again. The Blues went 4-1 against the Stars, though three of the wins were in overtime, but they never had a full lineup. Jaden Schwartz missed three of the games, Alex Pietrangelo missed another and Alexander Steen missed the final meeting. …
