Franklin Lakes Adopts $29.8M School Budget

FRANKLIN LAKES -- The Board of Education has adopted a $29.8 million budget for 2016-17 that will require $158.34 more in taxes on the average borough home, assessed at $1,048,400.

The district's total budget for next school year is $29,817,563. It calls for a tax levy of $25,956,748.

The school board adopted the budget on second reading last Tuesday.

In total, school taxes on the average home assessment will be $6,605.02, according to Michael Solokas, school business administrator.

Expenditures include instruction, $9,972,587,or 34.92 percent of the budget, an increase of $95,909 over 2015. Instruction includes 111 teachers' salaries. Special education costs are $4,628,892, or 16.21 percent of the budget, an increase of $139,792 over 2015.

Other costs include tuition for nine resident pupils who attend out-of-district special education, $480,350, up $10,350, and instructional support services (such as school nurses' salaries), up $18,726. …
