SALE FC made it three wins from three to secure their place in National League Two North with an 16-8 victory over Caldy.

The win - and results elsewhere - moved them out of the bottom three and to safety with one match left.

Sale were one of five clubs who could have gone down on Saturday. It took them 18 minutes to break the deadlock through two Liam McGovern penalties.

Caldy responded with a penalty of their own, but they were powerless to stop a Sam Stelmaszek break that brought a scrum on the hosts' line, and Elliot Fletcher touched down.

And in the 55th minute, Jack Moorhouse scored the visitors' second to put the game beyond Caldy, despite a late try.

After facing a daunting run of fixtures, Sale have pulled the results out of the bag against the odds, beating Stourbridge and champions Macclesfield to ensure safety in their first season in the fourth tier. …
