NEW YORK -- Reliever Josh Edgin (Tommy John surgery) has made six rehab appearances for Class A St. Lucie in his quest to return to the majors.

Edgin last pitched in the majors in 2014, and is nearing the conclusion of the 30-day window he's allowed in his rehab stint. The team must either promote Edgin to the majors or option him to the minors when the window expires.

Manager Terry Collins said he's talked to rehab pitching coordinator John Debus a few times and was told Edgin is "coming along OK."

"Velocity is supposed to edge up a little bit and move up. Is he going to get back fully to when we first saw him? I'm not sure," Collins said before Monday's game. "He's been pitching OK."

Edgin has been projected to return in May, but the bullpen is crowded at the moment. The team already has two lefties in Jerry Blevins and Antonio Bastardo, and long man Logan Verrett provides versatility with his ability to serve as a spot starter.

The team could carry an extra reliever and play with one less bench player. …
