I am a longtime shopper in the Strip District; my wife and I moved here in 1985 towork and start our family. To this day, my children, who come in from out of town for theholidays, still ask whether we are going to the Strip to pick up oplatke at St. Stan's for our SlovakChristmas Eve dinner or buy those delicious salt sticks at Mancini's bakery.

As I read about the impressive plans to renovate the produce terminal on SmallmanStreet ("Plan OK'd for Produce Terminal in Strip," April 15), I'm asking myself why there is not a similar effort for the Strip on Penn Avenue.

Could not the sidewalks be widened to better accommodate shoppers, allow vendors amplespace to display their wares and permit more outdoor dining? Could vehicular traffic beblocked on Penn Avenue between 16th and 25th Streets on Saturdays and days precedingholidays when the Strip is packed with shoppers? …
