IT'S Cinco de Mayo today and Mexican chain Wahaca is bringing the fiesta to Manchester with a free burrito giveaway.

The Corn Exchange restaurant will be dishing out burritos to the hungry lunch crowd from noon to 3pm today to celebrate the Mexican holiday, which commemorates the country's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

If you want to get your hands on one, all you have to do is turn up and form an orderly queue at its takeaway station.

Get down early and prepare to be patient though - hundreds of people waited in a line that snaked all the way down Oxford Street when new kid on the burrito block Chilango staged a similar giveaway to celebrate its opening last month.

Wahaca's burrito options range from slow-cooked pork in a habanero and achiote marinade, served with pink pickled onions, to chargrilled chicken rubbed with smoky ancho chilli and flash-fried skirt steak with chipotle salsa and spring onions, while veggies can opt for cactus and courgette with feta cheese. …
