Franklin Lakes-Based Becton Beats Expectations for Quarter

FRANKLIN LAKES -- Becton Dickinson and Co. on Thursday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $338 million.

The medical device manufacturer said it had net income of $1.56 a share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and restructuring costs, came to $2.18 per share, beating Wall Street expectations of $2.01 a share. Shares of Becton Dickinson rose in morning trading.

The company posted revenue of $3.07 billion in the period, which also topped Wall Street forecasts of $3.06 billion.

"We are pleased with our second-quarter revenue growth and strong operating performance,'' said Vincent A. Forlenza, chairman, chief executive officer and president, in a statement.
