It's been a long wait for new studio material from the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, last heard from in 2000 with the Ratdog album "Evening Moods."

There was talk last year that Weir was working on an album of "cowboy songs" with Josh Kaufman and Josh Ritter, but he's also opened the door to recording with Dead & Company, the band formed in 2015 in the wake of last summer's Fare The Well shows.

Dead & Company, which features Grateful Dead members Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kruetzmann with John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge, is set to launch its second tour in June (and play the First Niagara Pavilion July 13).

In a recent teleconference, frontmen Weir and Mayer expressed interest in working together in the studio.
