Congress Has Failed to Give National Parks Proper Funding

I was thrilled to read the recent National Park Service series overview ("America's Wildest Idea," April 24) about Pennsylvania's 19 national park sites but was dissatisfied that the article did not mention that national parks have suffered for years due to insufficient funding from Congress.

America's national parks, as the article points out, are wondrous, inspiring places that generate $32 billion annually for our national economy and support nearly 300,000 private-sector jobs. By comparison, Google employs about 57,000 people. In 2015, more people than ever visited national parks and even more are expected to visit this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.

Yet, while visitation and spending are high, national parks' budgets remain too low. …
