SARASOTA COUNTY -- Economic developers will ask county government this week for $720,000 in financial incentives to help lure a national roofing company to the area.

The plan, code named "Project Mulligan" by the Sarasota County Economic Development Corp., includes $216,000 in tax refunds over the next eight years and $504,000 in economic development incentives over the next six years.

In exchange, the undisclosed company would move its corporate headquarters to Sarasota County and create 180 jobs in the office, including in-company transfers and new local hires, over the next five years, according to county documents. The average wage of those jobs must be almost $59,000, per the terms of the proposed agreement.

The Sarasota County Commission will consider both contributions at its meetings today in Venice and Wednesday in Sarasota. …
